new Orleans –
A vehicle plowed into a crowd at New Orleans’ famous Canal and Bourbon Streets in the first hours of the New Year, killing ten people and injuring 30, according to NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness agency.
New Orleans police previously said they were responding to a mass casualty incident, including deaths. Nola Ready advised people to stay away from the area.
It said the injured were taken to five local hospitals.
The incident occurred at the end of New Year’s celebrations in New Orleans and just hours before the kickoff of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, a college football quarterfinal held at the city’s Caesars Superdome, with thousands expected to be in attendance.
