CNN founder Ted Turner dies at 87

US broadcast news pioneer and CNN founder Ted Turner has died, the cable news channel announced on Wednesday.

Turner launched CNN in 1980 and revolutionized the way America and the world consumed news by establishing a round-the-clock breaking news system that reshaped the television industry at the end of the 20th century.

The Ohio native founded his media empire in Atlanta, Georgia and, after selling CNN to Time Warner, became one of the most prominent business leaders and philanthropists of his era.

Turner revealed in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, a little-known neurodegenerative disease.

This is a developing story, more details to come
