Bexo recommended importing the 12 seed words into Metamask or Trust Wallet and creating a new address.
The team confirmed to CriptoNoticias that the assets were stolen in BTC, without providing further details.
The Bexo team, an Argentine cryptocurrency wallet, announced “irregular activity” on its platform on May 27. The fact was confirmed directly to CriptoNoticias, where they detailed the theft of bitcoin (BTC) from some user accounts in an incident that occurred the previous day.
In addition, Bexo also told this portal that the scope is still unclear: «We still do not fully understand what happened to BTC. “We continue trying to solve the situation and find those affected.” From Bexo They have not yet specified the attack vector, nor the amount stolen or the number of accounts compromised.
The theft leaves the question open: how was it possible if it is a self-custody wallet that, by design, keeps the private keys in the possession of the user and not on third-party servers, which makes it inaccessible to conventional external attacks.
Bexo operates as a hybrid wallet according to their website (combines self-custody elements with its own services) which could indicate that the attack vector came from one of those services and not from the keys themselves. Nevertheless, The cause of the robbery remains under investigation.
Through X, the team behind Bexo alerted those affected: «We detected irregular activity in some accounts. We recommend transferring your funds to an external wallet. “We are investigating and working to resolve it.”
The instructions that accompanied the alert were to import the 12 seed words into a compatible wallet such as Metamask or Trust Wallet, and from there send funds to a new address.
The statement did not include a start date for the problem, an estimate of amounts at risk, or a resolution schedule. It also did not specify whether the irregularity affects all networks compatible with the wallet or only some.
