Report: Politically motivated crime reaches new high in Germany
Politically motivated crime in Germany reached a new high in 2025, according to a newspaper report.
sunday world At least 85,000 such crimes were recorded in German states last year, up from 84,174 in 2024, the report said.
Citing its research, the newspaper reported that the number of these crimes has more than doubled in the last 10 years.
The data covers Germany’s 15 federal states, with data missing only for Rhineland-Palatinate in the south-west.
WAS reported that violent crimes said to be politically motivated are also on the rise, with more than 4,100 crimes recorded last year, including assault, arson and explosive crimes as well as disturbing the peace.
Police blamed conflicts in the Middle East as well as polarized German elections last year for the increase, the newspaper said.
While more than half of all crimes were classified as right-wing extremism, left-wing extremist crimes increased by 35%, reaching more than 13,000 cases.
