The US Justice Department on Monday said it will denaturalize 17 US citizens convicted of crimes in various courts.
Denaturalization is rare in the US and can only happen in federal court. Denaturalization is only for US citizens who have obtained US nationality through the naturalization process.
Birthright citizenship is protected by the US Constitution, although the Trump administration is also trying to revoke birthright citizenship of Americans born to undocumented parents.
