With almost a week having passed since the tournament started, World Cup fever is in full swing in Germany National teamSunday’s 7-1 defeat of Curacao looked all the more impressive in light of Spain’s goalless draw with Cape Verde on Monday.
You see, these group-stage games against smaller nations are not as easy as you might think!
Strikers Deniz Undav and Kai Havertz both scored against Curaçao, but there’s some bad news for Germany fans who wanted to have those names printed on the back of their replica shirts after the official kit provider ran out of Versus lettering – midfielder Alexander Pavlovic’s name is also affected.
“DFB [German Football Federation] “Its partner 11TeamSports is responsible for the name of the shirt,” kit maker Adidas told SID sports news agency.
“Due to high demand for the names Undav, Havertz and Pavlovich, there was a temporary shortage of the letter V. These shortages were immediately corrected and names with the letter V will soon be available online again.”
Germany’s most popular World Cup kit
German sportswear maker Adidas is fielding the German national team at the World Cup for the last time before the DFB controversially turns the deal over to American rivals Nike from 2027.
Germany’s kits at the 2026 World Cup are particularly popular, with white shirts reminiscent of Italia ’90 with black, red and gold colors – but the turquoise second strip is the best-seller.
The revolutionary pink shirt of the 2024 European Championships two years ago remains Germany’s best-selling shirt ever. Fortunately, Havertz was the only German player with a V in his name to score in that tournament, while Pavlovich was not in the team.
Germany’s next game is against Ivory Coast on Saturday night (22:00 CET).
