Wind-fueled wildfires are out of control in California
Several huge wildfires driven by wind are spreading with devastating force across the Los Angeles area, destroying homes and forcing thousands of people to flee. Fire officials are preparing for conditions to worsen as strong winds are expected to increase. More than a thousand structures have been burned. Although it’s rare to see destruction on this scale in January, experts have warned that climate change is lengthening California’s fire season and now becoming a year-round threat. As the planet continues to warm, leading to more extreme weather events, questions are being raised about rebuilding and habitability. Is this the ‘new normal’? Tim Brown, Research Professor
