A helicopter belonging to Saudi oil company Aramco crashed early Sunday morning in Ras Tanura on Saudi Arabia’s east coast, west of the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia’s state news agency reported.
The company had resumed loading at Ras Tanura on Friday – after months of inactivity amid the US-Iran war and blockages in the Strait of Hormuz – seeking to capitalize on a tentative and faltering initial agreement between Iran and the US.
What else was said about the accident?
“An investigation is underway with the participation of relevant authorities to determine the cause of the helicopter crash,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted an unnamed Energy Ministry official as saying.
It reported that all 14 people on board the plane were Saudi citizens, and there were no survivors of the crash.
The accident is said to have occurred around 6 a.m. local time, several hours before rumors about it spread.
Aramco, the world’s largest oil company, is majority-owned by Saudi Arabia.
