International ban against Syria

During the 13 -year civil war in Syria, Western powers, including the European Union and the United States, imposed heavy sanctions against the Assad government.

Grandy said, “Review should be done and expected.” “The restriction for the refund of refugees is a significant hurdle at the moment.”

After the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the interim government holding power topped the Assad regime, which has been frequently called to lift sanctions.

The new Syrian administration aims to bring 6 million Syrians who fled abroad and millions of people who are internal displaced.

“If the restrictions are lifted, it will implement situations at the places where people return,” Grandy said. “It wants to be an additional factor to encourage people to return.”

West reduces the country restrictions

Some Western governments want to wait and see if the new Syrian leadership is committed to an inclusive transition as if it was promised.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the US released a discount of six -month sanctions for some areas including energy.

The European Union is expected to follow the suit on meeting the European Union Foreign Minister and discussing the issue on Monday.
