Somalia officials say 130 terrorists were killed on Thursday as soldiers of Somali National Army at four government military bases at the center of the country.
The VOA was not able to confirm the great death from the Somali fight, which happened in an area where in recent times government forces have repeatedly hit with al-Shabab.
In a statement, Somalia’s Information Ministry said the terrorists used explosives to attack the bases in the Central Shabel region.
The ministry said, “Al-Shabab suffered a huge defeat and our brave hero is actively chasing the remaining terrorist. Somalia will never fight in his fight against terrorism.”
The statement said that government forces recovered weapons from defeated terrorist fighters.
For the past few weeks, the forces of the Somali government supported by local clan militia have recently operated with the aim of securing rural villages with the Shabel River freed from al-Shabab.
Commander General Ibrahim Mumin of the third division of the Somali National Army told VOA Somali that Thursday’s al-Shabab “failed” attacked as the government trops left the terrorists.
Mumin said that in anticipation of the al-Shabab attacks, the defensive obstacles standing by the soldiers stopped the explosives from painting the military bases.
Neither the Ministry of Information nor the Commander provided casualties for government forces, but a local resident said that VOA was killed at least five soldiers and more than 10 others were injured.
According to officials, on Thursday, in separate clashes, at least 20 Islamic State terrorists were killed, and dozens of injured in the Pantland region north of Somalia.
Pantland Police Commissioner Brigadier General Mumin Abdi Shire told the VOA that the Islamic State terrorist had a massive casualties.
