The trend of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) has increased rapidly in India. People are using UPI app even for making small payments. Be it big transactions or big money transfer work, UPI is becoming the first choice of the people. The reason for this is that no charge is taken for making payment through it. Meanwhile, news is coming that there may be a charge for making payment through UPI. In such a situation, LocalCircles has conducted a survey. In which it has been revealed that if a charge is levied, then 75 percent of the users will stop using UPI.
In fact, in today’s time, you will find UPI scanners installed everywhere, from tea stalls to vegetable shops. There is hardly any shop where payment is not accepted through UPI. The reason for this is that the money reaches the account in the blink of an eye. At the same time, no charge is taken for making payment through it.
Big revelation in the survey
According to a survey by LocalCircles, 38 percent of users make 50 percent of their payment transactions through UPI instead of debit card, credit card or any other digital medium. The survey says that only 22 percent of UPI users are ready to bear the burden of transaction fees on payments. At the same time, 75 percent of the people said that if transaction fees are levied, they will stop using UPI. This survey has been conducted on three major areas. It has received responses from more than 44,000 people from 325 districts. However, the number of answers to each question was different. This survey was conducted from mid-July to mid-September 2024. It includes 65 percent men and 35 percent women.
UPI is very important for people
The survey report says that UPI is rapidly growing, 4 out of 10 people use UPI. In such a situation, there is strong opposition to the imposition of any kind of direct or indirect transaction fee. Let us tell you that the Reserve Bank of India had issued a discussion paper in August 2022. In this, it was proposed to levy a charge on UPI payments based on different amounts. However, later the Finance Ministry clarified that there is no proposal to impose fees or charges on UPI transactions.
