“Anora,” a drama about a sex worker, who works with the son of a Russian elite, took five Academy Awards, which included the best pictures for Sean Baker and the best director.
The first nominated Mickey Madison, who led the actress the best actress for her portrayal of the 23 -year -old sex worker in New York, in her acceptance speech, honoring the sex worker community, saying that she would continue to “support and be a partner.”
Anora, which shows Madison’s character’s struggles after a sick romance, was built for just $ 6 million.
Baker, who raised his first Oscar as the best director, said: “I really want to thank the academy for recognizing an independent film. The film was made on blood, sweat and testing of incredible Indian actors.”
Oscar back in Dolby Theater after deadly fire
Comedian Conan O’Brien first hosted the ceremony as it returned to the Dolby Theater after a fire in Los Angeles in January.
Several firefighters were welcomed on stage during the ceremony as they were appreciated and thanks to their work for setting fire of disastrous forest.
Adrian Body Wins Best Actor for “The Cruelist”

Iranian filmmakers Shirin Sohani and Hosain Moliami earned their first Academy Award for “In the Shadow of the Saru” for the short film.
It was the first Iranian animated or live action short film to nominate and win at the Oscar.
A few hours before the ceremony, the filmmakers arrived in the US and had to convert their outfits in a public toilet in the BBC LA office from where they made their award again. His film has no dialogue and he is about a former captain who is suffering from PTSD.
