“I am very nervous,” 41 -year -old director and screenwriter Mascha Shilinsky told Berlin Public Broadcaster RBB. “I am happy with madness, but nervousness is that.” He hoped that “Sound of Falling” would be displayed on a major festival, and realized that it was worthy of that distinction. “But I didn’t really expect it. This is a filmmaker’s dream!”
Now Shilinski is fulfilling the dream at the 78th Can International Film Festival, which runs from 13 to 25 May. The German director in the ear is in the form of a German newspaper. Suddatsche Zitung “Sometimes at a harder time compared to a decent lunch for less than € 20.”
This year, the country is depicted by Fatih Akin, whose historical film “Amram” is out of the competition, and the Christian Petzold, whose feature “Mirror No. 3” is selected for the factories of directors, which is for independent sidebar at the Cannes Festival.
But Shiliski is the only German director with a film in the main competition, first when Maran Ed created a stir with “Tony Edman” on the 2016 festival.
Shilisky’s film Wes Anderson, Kelly Record and Richard Lincleter, are set for the prestigious Golden Palm Award with work by directors.
Four generations depiction
“Sound of Falling” is set in a farm in a small village in Northstars Germany. It follows the life of four generations of women living on the farm, jumping back and forth between different deadlines until the lines between the smear do not, and begins as pictures of the four generations, forming a comprehensive depiction of a century.
“As we passed through the rooms of the farmhouse, we could understand the centuries,” says Shilinsky. “This is a question that I have done since childhood.” She explains that as a little girl at a prever -apartment building in Berlin, she often thought, “What was the study of sharp walls in the past? Who is sitting right at the place where I am sitting now? Is the luck played here?” So it seems that the film here is an attempt to imagine the answers to those questions.
Female fog in the film
As Shilisky’s first film of 2017, “Dark Blue Girl,” is about the dynamic of a complex family, it focuses on a female perspective. Shilinsky says that the female haze was greatly imported to her and her co-author Lewis Peter, as it is very rare in films. “Sound of Falling” is related to events from the perspective of women. The director explains, “The film is very high about Gazes, the gazes that have exposed women in front of a bee during a century, how it feels today and therefore how it is done and is burnt in the body,” says the director.
Shilisky’s career path seems almost predetermined: her mother is a filmmaker who took her to film shooting, and she started acting for film and television while breastfeeding school. Then he did the film business internship, worked as a casting agent, traveled through Europe and worked as a magician and fire dancer for a small journey circus. After writing screenplay at Hamburg Film School, she settled in Berlin and began working as a freelance screenwriter for the film and television.
“Dark Blue Girl” was screening at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival, and his career is likely to grow further with his latest film in his ear.
Shilinski says that she could not believe it when she was first invited to screen “Falling of Flying”: “I checked to see if the ‘official selection’ was any kind of sidebar, or actually the main competition,” adding the film to the film a festival: Berlin, Venice and Cannes. But the notification just before Christmas came, saying, “Congratulations, you are in Cannes main competition!”
