Manipur government closed internet service in 5 districts, fear of deteriorating law and order after the arrest of Arambai Tengol – Manipur Government has suspended internet services access five valley districts for five days including IPHAL WEST IST PAST Bishnupur and Kakching

The Manipur government has suspended internet and mobile data services including Vsat and VPN in 5 districts. This suspension is for 5 days from 11.45 pm to 5 days on Saturday night. These districts include Imphal West, Imphal East, Thobal, Bishnupur and Kakching. Prohibition has also been implemented. Complete curfew was imposed in Bishnupur district. The order came after the arrest of Meeti Sangathan leader Arambai Tengol on Saturday night after extensive protests in Imphal East and Imphal West districts. Preheat steps have been taken to prevent law and order in the respective areas.

The order issued by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home), N Ashok Kumar said, “Especially in view of the current law and order situation in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thobal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts, there is a fear that some anti-social elements are afraid to instigate public passions, social media for the transmission of speech and video plants for transmission of the public’s passion, dissemination of image, hatred speech and video plans. Can be a serious impact on the state’s law and order situation.

The protesters burnt tires and old furniture in the middle of the road in Quakethel and Uripok demanding the release of the Meeti leader. The situation was also tense on Sunday morning. Security has been increased on the roads leading to Raj Bhavan and additional deployment of central forces personnel.

Clash at different places

There was a clash between protesters and security forces on Saturday night at different places in Imphal. Angry mob set a bus on fire in Khurai Lammong in Imphal East district. The voices of several bullets were heard in Quakthel but it was not known who fired the bullets. The protesters also surrounded the gate of Imphal Airport in Tulihalh after spreading unconfirmed news to take the arrested leader out of the state. They took to the streets near the airport and slept in the middle of the road to stop any possible attempt to take the arrested leader out of the state. Meanwhile, members of the organization of Tengol put a symbolic protest against the arrest and put petrol on them.
