Shreya came to America on F-1 visa in 2022 and is a master student. On May 29, the thugs called him as an ICE agent and falsely claimed that they have violated the immigration rules. He asked Shreya to buy a gift card of $ 5,000 and share his code, he was calling it a bond. The thugs threatened that if they do not do so, they will be arrested and deported.

Shreya was very scared due to being on the phone for three hours and frequent threats. He said – ‘I felt that if the phone is cut or talked to anyone, then my problem will increase. I was completely stuck. The thugs also had personal information about Shreya, such as their Indian city, the way of entering America and information related to education. This information is only with government agencies, which strengthened their trust.
Student in loan of 5 lakhs
The thugs said that the next morning a police officer would come to get a gift card and bond paper, but he never came. After this, Shreya suffered a lot of financial loss because she is paying the student loan and now she has a loan of $ 5,000. Shreya told that she is alone in America. This money was for his studies and future. This fraud ruined his future.

Being an international student, Shreya said that it is difficult to understand the American system, which makes international students a victim of cheating. He said that he is embarrassed that he got caught in this trap. However, she wants people to learn from her story. Shreya is now collecting financial assistance on Gofundme and advises all international students to be vigilant. She is explaining to the people that no legitimate government agency will ask for a gift card, bank details or social security numbers on the phone. If someone makes such a demand, then it is directly cheated.
