A deputy police chief from Kenai has resigned in police custody amid an investigation into the death of a blogger.
Deputy Inspector General Elian Lagut said on Monday that he was stepping down as he continued the investigation of Albert Ozwang’s death.
Ozwang was found in his cell, arrested in social media posts accusing them of corruption.
His death has protested in Nairobi, in which protesters have called for Lagut’s resignation.
On Friday, Kenai President William Ruto said that his government would “save citizens from evil police officers,” and called for a thorough investigation into Ozwang’s death.

Lagut said that he has opted for “the option to move aside” in Ozwang’s death … to be pending “.

Ozwang was arrested on 6 June for publishing “false information” on social media. Hey then 400 km (248 mi) was transported to Nairobi.
Two days later, he was found dead at the Central Police Station.
