On Wednesday, a SpaceX Starship rocket exploded in a huge fireball during a regular testing preparation.
The rocket is designed to be the most powerful in the world, preparing the tenth test flight at the Space Starbase feature on the southern end of Texas.
Starship explodes during ‘routine static fire’ test
Local authorities confirmed that the explosion occurred at a time when the rocket was preparing for the “regular static fire test” of its engines.
This means that engineers were designed to test rocket engines, which were still with crafts held on their launch pads. But something went wrong and the rocket burst.
SpaceX presented the incident as a “major discrepancy”, writing in a statement on X: “A security clear area around the site was maintained throughout the operation and all personnel are safe and responsible for it.”
CEO Elon Musk said there was no threat to the nearby communities and people did not ask to go to the site.
SpaceX is developing a starship spacecraft with the hope of sending crew missions on Mars by the end of the decade among other ambitious plans.
