Music composer Johan Sebstian Bakh re -strengthened his famous St. John Passion on three occasions, adapted to each version to reflect the spirit of time. The story, which tells about the passion of Jesus, is more than ever than before, given the classic replication at the leapzing Bakh Festival.
In Christian theology, Jesus’ passion refers to Christ’s sorrows, crucifixes and revival during its last week on Earth. This ends with their resurrection, including their arrest, test, death and burial, a foundation stone for Christian delivery in salvation and reactions.
In the early weekends, “Quir Passion” – with a new Librato by Thomas Hoft – what about the pain of the people of the LGBTQ scene. “Especially in Russia and USA, Quir people are being discriminated against once again and being harassed,” the author, Dramaturge and director Thomas Hauft told DW.
Arabic in Arabic against Middle East conflicts
The “Arab Passion”, organized by Bulgarian composer Vladimir Ivanoff, gives Bakh music on Oriental Flavor. Performed in the open air at the market square in Leipzig, his message for peace between the West and East reached a big audience.
Ivanoff added excerpts from St. John and St. Matthew Passion of Bakh in 2006, as the US invasion of Iraq continued.
“I saw the suffering of the people and attracted parallel to the gospel,” he told DW. “I would never have thought that after about 20 years, the subject would still be so relevant in the Middle East.”
The passion parts are sung by the Lebanese actress and singer Fadia Tomb L-Hage in Arabic, currently living in Germany.
“I grew up in Lebanon and almost constant stress,” she told DW. “As long as I can remember, there has always been a civil war.”
After Israel’s recent attacks on Iran, she is very worried about her relatives and friends in Lebanon. He sang Aria “Mercy” (“Mercy on Me”) from St. Matthew Passion, especially from a heart -provoking manner.
Changes beyond music
This year’s Bakh Festival is the motto “Parivartan”.
“This is a word we hear in abundance at this time,” Michael Maul, director of Bakh Festival, told DW, referring to changes in the economy, digital world and climate. “We have applied this word to music and it fits very well with the tasks of Bakh,” hey said.
Johann Sebstian Bakh often modified his own music, changing instruments or songs. In the early version of his famous “Mass in bee Minor” written in 1733, the concert opened. Although rarely performed, this version was later used in full “mass”, and now it is part of UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.

75 years of bach collection
