A stampede occurred during the Rath Yatra festival on Sunday near Sri Gundicha Temple in Puri, Odisha. 3 people died and around 50 others were injured in the accident. Officials say the injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital and the condition of 6 people is critical. The bodies have been sent for post -mortem and the case is being investigated. The deceased have been identified as Basanti Sahu, a resident of Bolagarh and Premkant Mohanty and Pravati Das, residents of Balipatna.

Why is Shri Gundicha Temple famous

A day after the commencement of the Rath Yatra in Puri, on Saturday, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra reached Shri Gundicha Temple. The Shri Gundicha temple is considered to be the home of the aunt of the gods. This temple is 2.6 km from the 12th century Jagannath temple. Every year, God goes to his aunt’s house i.e. Shri Gundicha temple from Jagannath temple. The journey of God’s return is known as the ‘Bahua Yatra’. This will take place on 5 July this year.

We express our condolences to the families of the devotees who lose their lives in the stampede … Mahaprabhu Jagannath is praying to give them the power to bear this grief. ”He also said that the security omissions will be investigated and strict action will be taken against the culprits. This negligence is not forgiven. The security lapse will be investigated immediately.
