PM modi 5-nation tour: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his visit to five countries from Wednesday (July 2). This historic visit of PM Modi will run from 2 July to 9 July. The journey starting from Ghana will be Prime Minister Modi’s longest diplomatic visit in about 10 years. PM Modi is traveling to five countries to attend the BRICS summit in Brazil and to deepen India’s relations with several major countries of ‘Global South’. Apart from Brazil, he will also go to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina and Namibia during this visit.
‘Global South’ means those countries that are considered developing, low -developed or underdeveloped. Or which are mainly located in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In the first phase of the yatra, PM Modi is going to Ghana. PM Modi said that he would stay there on Wednesday and Thursday at the invitation of Ghana President John Droni Mahama.
Ghana’s visit after 30 years
This is Prime Minister Modi’s first bilateral visit to Ghana. It will also be the first Ghana visit of a Prime Minister of India in three decades. PM Modi said that Ghana is an important partner in ‘Global South’. African plays an important role in the economic community of the Union and West African countries. He said that he is eager to further intensify the historical relations between the two countries and open new doors of cooperation in the areas of investment, energy, health, security, capacity building and development partnerships.
He will go to Trinidad and Tobago after visiting Ghana with deep historical and cultural relations of India. During this visit, PM Modi will hold talks with Trinidad and Tobago President Christine Carla Kangalu and Prime Minister Kamla Prasad-Bissar. Kangalu was the chief guest on this year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
PM Modi said, “Indians had reached Trinidad and Tobago for the first time 180 years ago. This journey will give us an opportunity to revive the special bonds of united ancestors and relatives.” After this, PM Modi will go to Buenos Aires, which will be Argentina’s first bilateral visit to an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years.
He said that Argentina Latin is a major economic partner in America and a close aide in the G20. PM Modi said that he is keen to hold talks with President Xavier Miley. Modi and Miley also met last year.
BRICS will participate in summit
PM Modi will attend the BRICS summit at Rio de Janeiro on July 6 and 7. PM Modi said that as a founding member, India is committed to BRICS as an important platform for cooperation among emerging economies. PM Modi will meet many world leaders during the summit.
PM Modi will go to Namibia in the last phase of the yatra, which he described as a reliable partner of India with a common history of the struggle against colonialism. He said that he would meet President Netumbo Nandi-Nadaitwa. During this time, people of both countries, regions and widespread global South will create a new blueprint for the welfare of South.
PM Modi expressed confidence that his visit to these five countries will strengthen India’s relations and friendship in Global South. Also, the partnership on both sides of the Atlantic will be strengthened. Apart from this, participation in multilateral forums like BRICS and African Union will be deep.
‘India committed to BRICS’
While leaving for a week -long visit to five countries including Brazil, Prime Minister Modi said on Wednesday that India is committed to BRICS as an important platform for cooperation among emerging economies. BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Later, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were also expanded. Before leaving, PM Modi said in his statement, “We together are trying to create a more peaceful, equal, equitable, democratic and balanced multipolar global system.”
