The report shows that Chinese firm supplies a significant component in about 10 to major US defense programs including missile defense, nuclear system and space technology. This throws light on how deeply in Beijing’s industries are in America’s military supply chain. In which missile defense has special dependence on major minerals in parts made in China and China’s production.
According to Govini’s National Security Scorecard released this week, Chinese firms stake in 9.3% of primary contractors for major American defense programs in 9 important sectors in 2024. These are known as Tier 1 supplier. These sectors include aviation, sea, command and control system, nuclear, missile defense and space. It has been further told in the report that how deep the Chinese suppliers are connected in important military supply chains. The missile defense sector is important to protect the US from attack, the most dependence in it. Out of Tier 1 suppliers, 11.1 percent were sugar. Even the nuclear region, where the security bets are the highest, depends on the Chinese suppliers for 7.8 percent for their components. Which is more than any other foreign country.
‘America not ready for war with China’
The report was quoted as saying that if China said that ‘Today is the beginning of the war’, America is not ready for the war in which it may have to participate. ‘ America’s dependence on China is clear, but it is not so easy to completely eliminate Chinese suppliers. According to the report, an area of special concern was an important mineral. It states that hundreds of weapons systems from jet to ships and missiles depend on minerals like Antimony, Gallium, Germanium, Tungsten and Teliurium. China dominates the global production of these materials. In fact, Govini found that 78 percent of US arms systems could be affected by Chinese export restrictions on these minerals.
