The bill, introduced by American Senator Lindsay Graham, aims to further tighten the sanctions against Russia. This will affect countries that maintains relations with Moscow- India and China. When asked about it to Jaishankar, he said- ‘When we reach there, we will cross that bridge too’. It seems from him that India is adopting a policy of weight and watch on this issue or he does not want to open his cards.
Will see when the bill is applicable
S. Jaishankar has clarified that India knows the effects of this bill well and is in constant touch with the US MPs. He said that the concerns related to our energy and security related to the bill have been told to Senator Graham and other people. India’s embassy and ambassador are discussing this issue. S. Jaishankar further said that India will come to its impact when the bill is applicable.
Talk on the issue of South China Sea
Along with this, Jaishankar also spoke on the issue of South China Sea in the meeting of quad countries – India, America, Japan, Australia. He described it as a big concern for all quad members as it is an important international waterway. Jaishankar said- peaceful solution of disputes and keeping the region calm and conflict-free is included in our priorities. The joint statement of the Quad opposed efforts to forcefully change the current situation in the Eastern and South China Sea.
