Sugar prices will be bitter due to mouth, expressions can increase due to stock decrease – Sugar Price Hike Within Three Month during Festive Season

Sugar prices are going to rise in the coming days. India’s sugar mills had a large stock of more than 79 lakh tonnes of sugar till 30 September 2024. But on 30 September 2025, it is expected to decrease to about 47-52 lakh tonnes by the end of the current marketing season. By the way, this stock is considered sufficient to meet domestic demand. But due to this, the prices of sugar in the domestic market will increase.

What will the government do to reduce the price

Keeping in mind the festivals of October, a free cell quota of 23-24 lakh tonnes of sugar can be issued for the domestic market. In such a situation, by 1 November 2025, the mills will have the same stock, which can be launched in the market for November. In this way, the availability of old stocks by the end of November will almost end.

Meanwhile, the process of sugarcane crushing and sugar production of the new season will also start from October. This process usually gains speed after mid -October and sugar production increases from November. Last year, 17.90 lakh tonnes of sugar was produced in October-November, as well as the previous stock was also available, which did not cause any crisis in the supply. But this time the mills are likely to be empty, which may cause pressure on the supply.

How many production of sugar needed

Given this situation, domestic production of at least 30-35 lakh tonnes of sugar is necessary in October-November 2025, so that the government does not have any problem in issuing free cell quota for December. For this, it is necessary that this time the crushing of sugarcane starts soon in October and more and more sugar mills become active.

Sugarcane area is more than last year in major producing states like Maharashtra and Karnataka, but now everything depends on the monsoon situation. If there is good rainfall in these states during July-August and there is no outbreak of disease or pests on the crop, then it is possible to increase sugarcane yield and sugar production. Last year, the weather in both these states was unfavorable from August to October, causing a decline in sugar production in the 2024–25 season. Production in Uttar Pradesh was also low, although the situation was better than Maharashtra. This time also the role of weather will be important.
