Trump, who has been describing himself as a peacemaker for a long time, was surprised by this enrollment. Thanking Netanyahu, he said, “I didn’t know this. Wow, thank you very much. It is very meaningful especially from you.” Trump has received several Nobel Peace Prize nominations from supporters and loyal MPs in the last few years. He has not hidden his displeasure when he missed this prestigious award. Republican has complained that the Norwegian Nobel Committee has ignored the role of his mediation in conflicts between India and Pakistan as well as Serbia and Kosovo. So far, three US presidents have received the Nobel Peace Prize. Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, Woodrow Wilson in 1919 and Barack Obama in 2009.
Who can enroll?
Most enrollment for Nobel Prizes is only by invitations. The enrollment for the Nobel Prize can be presented by any person who fulfills nomination norms. The names of enrolled persons and other information related to enrollment cannot be exposed till 50 years later. Every year thousands of universities of the universities, members of the academies, former Nobel Prize winners and members of parliamentary meetings are asked to present candidates for the upcoming Nobel Prize. After the nomination is received, the respective institutions of different fields are responsible for the selection of candidates.
Nomination process
In his will, Alfred Nobel nominated the institutions responsible for the awards that he wanted to establish. A committee of five people to be elected by Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for Nobel Prize in Physics and Chemistry. In 1968, Swaraigs Ricksbank established the Swarigs Ricksbank Award in Economic Science in memory of Alfred Nobel. The Nobel Committee invites qualified people to enroll extraordinary work. 31 January is the last date for submission of nomination. In February, the Nobel Committee examines the nomination and selects initial candidates.
Winner selected process
In September, the Nobel Committee presents a final recommendation report to the academies concerned. In October, the Nobel Prize winners are selected by a majority. This decision is final and there is no appeal against it. After this, the names of Nobel Peace Prize winners are announced. In December, the Nobel Prize winners are awarded their awards. 338 candidates have been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, out of which 244 are people and 94 organizations. This is a significant increase compared to last year, when 286 candidates were enrolled. The highest enrollment was in 2016, when 376 candidates were nominated.
