At least 9 killed in an attack on courthouse – DW – 07/26/2025

Nine people died on Saturday when unknown started a gun and grenade attack in a courtyard in South -East Iran, stating that local media.

The attack occurred in Sista-Baluchistan province, near borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The province often looks at the Betty security forces and armed groups, including the Sunni terrorist group Jaish al-Adhal (Army of Justice), demanding more rights and autonomy for Iran’s ethnic Baloch.

What do we know about the attack?

The state news agency IRNA reported that the attack targeted a courtyard in Zahedon, the capital of the southeast Sista-Buluchistan province.

Zahedan read 1,130 km (700 mi) in the south -east of the capital Tehran.

The province’s Deputy Police Commander, Alirza Daliri said that the attackers attempted to enter the building ascendant as visitors.

The attackers threw a grenade in the building, Daliri said, many people died.

The dead included at least six citizens – including a mother and children – and three attackers, IRNA.

More than a dozen others were injured.

Citing eyewitnesses, Baloch Human Rights Group Halls said several judiciary staff members and security personnel were killed or injured.

IRNA said the three dead gunmen were killed in clashes along with security forces after the attack.

The Mizan online news site of the Iranian judiciary termed the murders as a “terrorist attack”.

Who are the Baloch ethnic minorities of Iran?

Sista-Baluchistan province is the home of the Baloch minority of Iran, who has a long complaint of economic margins and political boycott.

The province is one of the lowest developed parts of Iran. Baloch is a distinct Sunni Muslim, where Iran is a majority Shia.

Baloch Homeland is spread over the South -West Balochistan province of Pakistan, where the resident has expressed the same complaints of economic margins and where the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) terrorist group has carried out several attacks.

Who claimed responsibility for the courthouse attack?

The semi -oficial Tasnim news agency convicted the attack on the terrorist group Jaish al-Adhal.

The group, which is mainly composed of ethnic Baloch members, is known for violent attacks against Iranian security forces.

Jaish al-Adal, which emerged in 2012, aims to secure maximum rights and freedom for Baloch people in Iran.

In a statement posted on their telegram account, the group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The statement “asked all citizens to immediately vacate the area of struggle for their safety”.

In January 2024, Jaish al-Adal claimed to kill three revolutionary guard officers, including Colonel Hosin-Ali Zavdanfar, Siston-Bubuchistan Corps Commander.

A few months later, the group launched coordinated attacks in the cities of Chabahar, Rusk and Sarbaaz, targeting IRGC, Navy, Intelligence and police facilities.

Twenty -one security personnel and 18 terrorists were killed.

The Iranian government has accused a group of ties for involvement and participation in cross-cross smuggling and extremism.
