The new stick insect was discovered in the canopies of the wet tropical region of the far north Queensland in the northeast of Australia.

Angus Emot of James Cook University, who helped identify the new Ekophila Alta species, stated that the distant residence was probably because it was ignored for so long.

Emote said in a statement, “The possibility of mass of his body helps them to avoid the cold condition, and that is why they have developed in this large insect in millions of years.”

“What we know till date is the heaviest insect in Australia … It is limited to a small area of high-height rainfall, and it remains high in the canopy.

Scientists identified the stick insect as a new species thanks to their specific eggs.

Two samples have been added to the Queensland Museum Collection to support future research.
