For bitcoiners, sculpture symbolizes much more than a simple artistic piece.
The request can be signed freely from Change.org.
The Bitcoiner community has mobilized through a request that requests logistical support to restore the metal statue of Satoshi Nakamoto in Lugano, Switzerland, after the discovery of the monument made pieces in the Cresio Lake
Created by artist Valentina Picozzithe sculpture was presented in October 2024 during the Lugano Plan ₿ Forum. Then the architect of Bitcoin (BTC) was installed as a tribute, as well as a symbol of the values that the network represents: individual freedom, financial sovereignty and privacy.
The incident took place during the early morning from August 1 to 2. The work – a hooded figure almost a meter high, sitting with a laptop on the legs – was reported as missing and subsequently found in fragments by rescue divers.
Days before, Satoshigallery – the artistic group founded by Picozzi – had offered a reward of 0.1 BTC for information that helped to locate the statue, although it was finally recovered by the authorities without anyone claiming the incentive.
As Cryptonoths reported, far from surrendering to destruction, the community responded with a message of unity and strength. “They can steal our symbol, but never our souls,” said Satoshigallery after the recovery of the remains.
A short time later, Lugano’s inhabitants began a Public request at Change.org addressed to the City Council, requesting logistics support and a safe place to reinstall the statue. The artistic group promised to cover the manufacturing costs and donate a new replicawithout requiring economic contributions from the local government.
«Sculpture symbolizes much more than a work of art; It reflects the fundamental principles of Bitcoin, as well as Swiss values such as privacy, innovation and freedom, ”said Luca Esposito, organizer of Satoshi Spritz Lugano events, dedicated to financial education in cryptocurrency.
The petition clarifies that not only logistical support is requested to restore the monument, but also to reaffirm Lugano’s commitment to innovation, citizen security and respect for cultural symbols.
From social networks, Picozzi has guest to the bitcoiners to share photos next to the statue – or even only with their empty base – as a gesture of hope and positive energy, thus promoting a symbolic initiative to further elevate the mood of the community after the attack.
This attack took place four months after Satoshigallery installed, in Tokyo, his third statue dedicated to Satoshi, adding to those already present in Switzerland and El Salvador.
