In the Indian administrator Kashmir region, the police raided the book store after the government banned 25 books, called “exciting separatism”.
The government accused the authors of the banned books – including the Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy, as well as academics – “playing an important role in misleading youth against India”.
Earlier in February, the authorities conducted a similar raid, seized books including Islamic literature from homes and shops in the Muslim majority area, disputed 1947 from British rule between India and neighboring Pakistan.
What else do we know about the book ban?
Police said in a social media statement, “Operation targeted material, which promotes ideologies or promotes terrorism.” “Public cooperation is urged to maintain peace and integrity.”
The separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq mentioned the ban, saying that it “only reveals the insecurity and limited understanding of the Government of India”, that is, the decision is called “ruling”.
“Banning of books by scholars and eminent historians would not erase historical facts,” Farooq posted on his X account.
Kashmir witnessed local elections last year as New Delhi snatched the area of special status in 2019. The vote brought a large -scale powerless government to power, with India’s top administrator in Kashmir, Lieutenant village. Manoj Sinha is still gaining adequate rights in the region as a representative of the National Government.
The order to ban books was issued on the sixth anniversary of India’s implementation of direct governance on Kashmir.
