Trump-Jalensky meeting in Washington: Discussion on Ukraine-Russia peace talks

Zelensky to Meet Trump Discuss Peace Talks: Ukraine President Volodimir Jailonsky has given his first reaction to the summit in Alaska with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Jailonski, while supporting the proposal of Trump’s trump -trilateral meeting, said that he welcomes the initiative. He announced that he would meet Trump at Washington, DC on Monday to discuss in detail all issues related to the Ukraine-Russia war and Ukraine’s security guarantee.

The statement came after the Alaska meeting of Trump-Putin, which aims to end the Ukraine-Russia war that has been going on for more than three years. Jailonsky said in a statement that we support the proposal of Triple meeting of President Trump between Ukraine, the US and Russia. It is important that the voice of Ukraine be heard. He emphasized that there would be no compromise on the regional integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as lies in the Constitution of Ukraine. Jailonsky also stated that the US has given positive indications to participation in Ukraine’s security guarantee, which is important to ensure permanent peace after the war.

On August 15, two and a half hours of talks took place between Trump and Putin at Joint Base ElMandorf-Richardson in Alaska, in which the ceasefire and peace agreement was discussed. However, there was no concrete agreement, but Trump described it as positive and indicated that he wants to hold another meeting with Gelnsky and Putin soon. Trump said that if this meeting is good, then we will immediately hold another meeting, which will also include Jailonsky.

This statement has raised hopes in Ukraine, which is facing huge losses due to the Russian invasion. Jailonsky had earlier raised doubts about this meeting, saying that without Ukraine, any decision would be against peace. He accused Putin of lying in the desire of peace, but the proposal of Trump’s trippentic meeting softened his stand. European leaders such as German Chancellor Frederick Merge and French President Emmanuel Macron also emphasized that it is necessary to include Ukraine in any peace process.

Jailonski’s response shows that Trump’s diplomacy has succeeded in bringing Ukraine to the conversation table. However, Putin had earlier demanded complete control in the Donnetsk region, which was rejected by Ukraine and Europe. Jailonsky clarified that he is against any regional concession, as it would be a violation of the Constitution of Ukraine.

The upcoming meeting of Trump and Jailonsky in Washington has now become the center of global attention. It remains to be seen whether this tripartite talks will be able to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump’s diplomacy and gelnsky’s vigilant support may be an important step towards peace, but Russia’s intention and consent on regional concessions still remain uncertain.
