Study – DW – 08/19/2025

A climate group said on Tuesday that more than half of the work of major German politicians cross the goals of the European Union for average CO2 emissions and as a whole on their carbon budget as a fleet, a climate group said on Tuesday.

The German non-profit environment and Consumer Protection Association Duh, known as Environmental Action in English, found only a slight impact on 2024 figures in the 19th annual study of its kind.

It achieved similarities between the political community and the German car industry.

DUH Executive Director Barbara Metz Said in a statement“Instead of taking the switch ahead of the switch seriously, the federal government is focusing on polluting petrol and diesel limosine.”

What were the main conclusions of CO2 emission studies?

Overall, Duh estimated that 151 out of 238 cars evaluated it, which increases the average emission target of the European Union for a 93.6 gram CO2 per kilometer car industry. This is 63% of the vehicles assessed than 74% a year ago.

Any vehicle was awarded a green card under or below the target, a yellow card, which had a red card to do anything less than 20 grams per kilometer to any sharp.

Seven of the 11 federal government ministers involved in the study used vehicles earning red cards compared to seven of nine in 2024.

As a whole, seven ministries were given a green card for their fleet; There were two yellow, and seven were red.

“With this, despite the continuous climate crisis, there was no indication of a resulting switch towards skilled vehicles in the federal cabinet, even affects the change of government” said on Tuesday, earlier this year, Du said on Tuesday.

At the Ministry of Environment, at the state and federal levels, slightly better fare – 12 of them were given top marks and only four red cards were obtained.

How data has been calculated?

The study was based on global figures to calculate the so -called “real world emissions” rather than industry numbers from standardized tests. Therefore in 2024 to incorporate the environmental impact of electric vehicles using DUH data for the average CO2 costs of German power generation.

The study in the federal government fleet was noted an sunshine in one sunlight – from 50% to 57% last year – but said that their energy consumption was quite different, and in future also in future also examined their environmental impact.

Perhaps inadvertently, almost all the studied cars were made by German-made, large, luxury vehicles BMW, Audi or Mercedes-cars, who are sitting behind the guest of honor and are not in front.

This meant that even plug-in hybrids in the fleet were given the size and weight of their Isir, to almost double the level of the European Union benchmark. However, the duh thesis was estimating the emission of vehicles, when the stogue operates without any electric power, saying that “thesis cars are already driving with an empty battery.”

Which politicians were sung for Pylori, or praise?

The Prime Minister of the Bauxian state, Marcus Soder, was excluded to be the most thirsty official vehicle, an estimated 292 grams of CO2 per kilometer with their car emissions, more than three from the average target of the European Union.

Germany’s only Green State Premier, Winefreed Crascateschman, credited only 70 grams of CO2 per kilometer from neighboring Carmeging Southern State Baden Wurtembberg.

And perhaps Fitongly, the vehicle of Fitongy, Environment Minister Carston Schneider was found to emit any federal minister at 62 grams per kilometer. But the Transport Minister Patrick Schneider, “who really is the ogg to know better,” as Du said, he gave a red card for the emission of his plug-in hybrid.

Green party claims the cleanest fleet

The state of the city of Catherine Mosdorf, the environmental senator of Bremen, was honored for his official bicycle, as Hamburg’s traffic senator, Anjes Tajarks did not do any kind of commercial vehicle. Both politicians represent Greens.

Duh stated that only the greens can only perform for the acceptable fleet of official vehicles, “with an average emission of 85 g per kilometer.

Both center-top social democrats, at 151 grams, and centriright CDU/CSU at 160 grams, comforted the benchmark of the comfortable European Union.

The most senior politician, with heavy armored cars, excluded from studies

If you are wondering how Chancellor Frederick Merz and other major lights in national politics, then the study of duh cannot help.

Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor – as well as minister, internal, defense and health – all were excluded from the study. The reason for this is that these thesis vehicles are all armored, which means they are much heavier than the standard model and hence less energy efficient.

Given the sensitive nature of data, how much weight was really added and where, Duh chose not to include them.

The group stated that some of it guesses for other politicians requiring armed vehicles that a standard-dusty model may be lower than the real values, with its data.
