Transport Minister of 16 federal states of Germany said on Thursday that the cost of popular monthly public transit ticket, known as DeutschlandTick, will be extended to € 63 ($ 74) starting from January 2026.
After a special meeting of regional leaders, the price hike for monthly membership was agreed.
The Christian Burner of Bavaria’s Transport Minister, the Southern State, Conservative Christian Democratic Union (CSU) said after a special meeting that the decision was unanimous.
The cost of DeutschlandTickt is € 58 per month and allows customers unlimited rides on local and regional buses and trains and receives the country. Tickets include long distance high speed ice trains that connect German cities.
Southwestern Baden-Vurturbberg State Transport Minister, Winefreed Harman of the Entomist Greens welcomed that he signed an agreement on the fate of the program.
“We were expecting more money from the federal government to keep the price low,” he said, while still emphasizing most of most monthly passes, DeutschlandTickt can still be considered inexpensive.
Mobility Association Critic Hike
For the agreement, federal and state governments will continue to contribute € 1.5 billion per year to finance DeutschlandTick by 2030.
But despite the certificate on the continuity of the program, the dynamics and the environment association VCD rejected the decision to raise the price, saying that this comprehensive customer could cancel.
“DeutschlandTick is once again getting more expensive and once again bing as a political football,” VCD chief Caretin Harman said in a statement.
He said, “Yet it remains a central component of the transport revolution. The continuous price is reducing the trust of millions of passengers.”
The organization said that the ticket price is on its second hike. It was already extended from € 49 to € 58 in early 2025, which inspired a million customers, especially younger people to cancel their membership.
