India’s cricket team won the Cricket Asia Cup on Sunday, with a win over the archial Pakistan in a competition by the national political rivalry.
Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, president of the Asian Cricket Council, who is the internal minister of Pakistan. This was the latest in a series of unusual events during the Twenty20 tournament.
What happened when India played Pakistan?
Earlier this year, nuclear-head neighbors after a letter military conflict, emotions between the two sides were running high.
India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final at Dubai International Stadium. But even before the match, India’s players refused to join hands with their opponents for the third consecutive Asia Cup match.
Pakistan had threatened to leave the tournament on the “Handshek controversy”, but did not eventually.
After the match, the presentation ceremony was delayed for more than an hour on Sunday and then stopped just before the winner’s trophy was honored, India refused to participate.
Officials called it “departure from tradition” as Naqvi was waited on stage.
What did Pakistan and India say about the trophy award ceremony?
While Pakistan captain Salman Agha said that India had “insulted cricket,” his Indian counterpart Suryakumar Yadav complained to his side “the trophy was denied,” looking at the circumstances.
Suryakumar later portrayed a fictional trophy festival, stating that it was all that India was once again champions.
“It appeared on the big screen that India is the Asia Cup 2025 champion. It was a great journey and moment for a team for a team.”
Both countries announced victory in the four -day struggle in May when India launched Operation Sindoor. More than 70 people fight between missiles, drones and artillery fire.
