Indonesia and Pakistan, who simultaneously give a quarter of the Muslim population of the world, joined countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar, with a statement signed to support US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza.
statementTrump’s 20-Bindu scheme was issued by foreign ministers from eight Muslim majority countries on Monday, which was introduced on 29 September. The countries vowed to “attach” to “finalize and implement the agreement” with the US and all parties.
Although political leaders of many majority-Muslim countries support the plan, Hamas terrorist group, which had excluded 7 terrorist attacks on Israel before the war, has not issued a reaction. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted the plan.
What has Indonesia and Pakistan said?
Both Indonesia and Pakistan have consistently called to end the war and ended the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where more than 65,000 Palestinians are estimated.
Neither the country maintains generalized diplomatic relations with Israel, and the two say that recognizing Israel is accidental on recognition by Israel in a Palestinian state.
In his speech for the United Nations General Assembly on 23 September, Indonesian President Prabovo Jissyo said, “We should identify and guarantee Israel’s safety and safety, calling for an independent Palestinian kingdom. ,
“Only tons we have real peace,” he said, “Peace without hate, peace without cushion.”
Prabovo said that Indonesia would be ready to contribute 20,000 soldiers to any un-assured mission “to secure peace in Gaza.”
Muhammad Wafa Kharisma told DW in the revival of international relations in the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Indonesia that Tram’s plan for Indonesia for “geo -political victory”, signing the plan amount, aligns the country with the US administration.
Prabovo, who took over in October 2024, expedited Trump to win the US presidential election a month later. In July this year, Prabovo welcomed the “new era” of trade relations with the US after receiving a tariff deal with Trump.
Similarly, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who is having a close relationship with the US President, praised Trump’s footsteps on Gaza as an announcement of the plan on Monday.
In a post on X, Sharif shared his “firm that whatever is necessary to end the President Trump War,” whatever is necessary, is fully prepared to help.
“I welcome President Trump’s 20-Bindu Yojana to end the war in Gaza. I am so convinced that it will be necessary to bring political stability and economic growth in the sustainable peace field between Palestinian people and Israel,” Sharif has written on X.
On Monday, Trump, while announcing the plan during a press conference of the White House with Netanyahu, took into account Sharif’s statement, and praised his relationship with Pakistani Prime Minister and Army Chief Asim Munir. Trump hosted Sharif and Munir at the White House last week.
Analysts say Pakistan will most likely align itself with the consensus of Muslim countries, indicating Washington that it can be a creative partner.
Raza Rumi, a political analyst, said, “Islamabad wants the Palestinian self-disconnection to suit the position for a long-term support, but wants to avoid achieving details that may suggest legalizing Israeli control.”
“Participation in any multinational system, discovery in Gaza as policing or peace will be carefully weighed on political and military levels,” he said.
Trump backlash of Indonesia
The support of Trump’s plan by the governments of Indonesia and Pakistan has come up with extensive criticism.
Prabovo’s office had to deny that he was demanding generalization of relations with Israel after his speech at the United Nations.
This was increased by the image of Prabovo seen on hoardings in Tel Aviv, represented among other Islamic leaders in the Israeli campaign supporting Trump’s plan.
“Indonesia’s position Crystal is clear: There will be no recognition of generalization of relationships with Israel, it should be through Abraham Agreement or other platforms [unless] Israel already recognized the state of independent and sovereign Palestinian, “Spokesperson Yavon Mengkawang, spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, said at a press conference on Monday.
Prabovo’s speech criticized not to tie Israel’s military work directly in Gaza with a ongoing humanitarian crisis. On 16 September, a United Nations -backed Commission stated that Israel was “massacre” against Palestinians in Gaza.
“There is no demand for accountability from Israel – and not a single wrong thing is accepted on the part of Israel,” Kharism said. “Foreign policy should be accountable to the public.”
The International Relations Specialist at the University of Indonesia told DW to support Jakarta for the plan that “was well interested, but seems to be.”
Hey the document “fails to include the voices of” Israeli bias and Palestinian people “and should be closely viewed by the Government of Indonesia before further supporting the authorities.
Pakistani support may protest protests
In Pakistan, Trump’s proposed Gaza scheme gave terrible reactions from various political, religious and civil society groups.
Islamabad has depicted itself as a strong lawyer for Palestinian cause. However, it was selected to be a supporter stand for Trump’s initiative.
Sharif’s comments on the plan ignited resentment on social media, users “accused of pleasing Washington … by reducing Pakistan’s position on Palestine,” and “” legalizing Israel in the same tweet. “
“In the last two years, Thesis Voice has already collected mass protests and will use a moment to increase the government’s criticism,” Rumi said.
He said, “For the ruling coalition, it enacts a difficult balance act: not separating the large sections of the domestic people with international efforts, which sees any agreement on Palestine as betrayal,” he said.
On Tuesday, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that Trump’s Gaza Yojana “is not our document.”
Dar said that the Pakistan government will determine that Gaza is to contribute soldiers to a proposed special peace army that will work with Palestinian law enforcement agencies.
While Indonesia has promised to send 20,000 soldiers for this initiative, Dar said, Pakistan has so far decided about the contribution of the troop.
Trump’s proposal includes commission, hostage and exchange of prisoners for a ceasefire, return with a phased Israel, Hamas’s holiday and rebuilding Gaza with international assistance.
Although supporting the Islamabad scheme may protect short-term diplomatic gains with Washington, long-term reepermorcussions may include stressful regional relations, domestic disturbance and loss of transactions within the Muslim world.
Rumi said, “If Pakistan moves towards joining any multinational Gaza initiative, the pressure to keep the road calm will increase, and military and more firmly steps to create disturbance,” Rumi said.
