No Russia’s stance, plan changed
The main reason for this change is Russia’s tough and steadfast stance. On Monday, there was a phone conversation between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Lavrov later said that Russia’s stance remains the same – first a peace agreement, then a ceasefire. Whereas Washington wants the war to stop immediately but Putin is not ready for this. Russia argues that Ukraine’s joining NATO is a threat to its security. Therefore, Moscow wants Ukraine to stay away from NATO, the ban on Russian-speaking people to end and a new election process to be started.
Russia has put forward new conditions
According to Reuters, Russia sent a personal message to the US reiterating that it wants full control over Ukraine’s Donbass region and does not want the deployment of NATO troops under any peace agreement. The European Union also started playing its role in this agreement and said that Russia’s wars should be stopped where they have stopped. This plan was also supported by Ukraine, France, Germany, Britain and other European countries, but Russia rejected it and said that Ukraine would have to remove its military bases from the eastern areas.
Trump refused to give Tom Hawk missiles
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia is not taking peace talks seriously because America refused to provide Tomahawk long-range missiles. He says that if our long range strike capability increases, Russia’s desire for peace will increase. By the way, Zelensky is also not wrong, when he came to America to talk about Tomahawk missiles, Putin-Trump had agreed to meet just before that.
What Putin wants to show has happened
On the other hand, experts say that as always, Putin once again got Trump to do what he wanted. After talking on the phone for two and a half hours, he canceled the supply of Tom Hawk to Zelensky. Trump once again started pressurizing Zelensky to give him the Donbass area. According to the Financial Times report, he told Zelensky that if he did not bow down, Ukraine would be ruined. On the other hand, Hungary, a NATO country, was chosen to invite Putin. If Putin had gone there, Kremlin’s message would have also been sent that Putin stood with Trump, the world’s most powerful man, on the soil of a NATO country and he was not even arrested, despite the ICC warrant against him. In canceling the meeting, Lavrov also raised questions about how Putin would go to Budapest, as Poland has warned that an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) will be invoked if he enters its airspace. Overall, it seems that Putin was not really ready for this meeting, it was just an attempt to divert Trump’s attention from Zelensky’s meeting, which was successful.
