Before Diwali, Trump gave good news to India, pharmaceutical companies will get reliefTrump’s U-turn on tariffs.

US Tariff Plan on India: US President Donald Trump has hit the Indian market and economy the most with his import duty weapon. However, the good news is that currently the Trump administration’s plan to impose tariffs on generic medicines has been postponed. His decision will be a big relief for Indian pharmaceutical companies because most of the medicines used in America are exported from India.

According to IQVIA, the world’s leading medical data analytics company, India is a big market for medicines and even in a developed country like America, 47 percent of medicines are imported from India. Apart from this, there is a share of 30 percent, the remaining medicines come from other countries. India is called the pharmacy of the world.

Why did the Trump administration take a U-turn?

According to The Wall Street Journal report, this step limits the scope of the drug tariff investigation being conducted by the Commerce Department. The investigation has found that both generic and non-generic finished medicines as well as the raw materials used in drug manufacturing will also be kept under investigation. However, there is no unanimity even in the White House regarding this issue. One group says that heavy tariffs should be imposed on foreign medicines so that the manufacturing and marketing of medicines comes back to America. Whereas the other faction says that due to imposition of tariff on generic medicines, the prices of medicines will increase in America and there may also be a shortage in the market.

Trump tariff has been in discussions

Donald Trump has made a lot of headlines in the last few months because of the tariff war. After the tariffs imposed on China, it had stopped purchasing American agricultural products. This had a bad impact on American farmers. Similarly, America’s health sector benefits a lot because of Indian medicines because even after the tariff, the cheap medicines here remain cheaper than those produced there. Diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure and consumption of common antibiotics is highest in America.
