A 45-year-old German man has died on the French island of Corsica, the local fire and rescue service said Thursday.
The man was swimming with his wife and two children in a river in the northwest of the island when a strong current of water came from nearby mountains during a storm and he was swept away, the Sismonte fire service said in a Facebook post.
It said the man’s wife and his two daughters, aged 9 and 13, were rescued by rescue workers. Later the body of that person was found.

The whole of Corsica was on orange weather alert on Thursday, with winds of up to 170 km (106 miles) per hour expected from Thursday night into Friday and strong waves along the island’s southern coastlines.
Many flights on the island were delayed or canceled due to the winds.
“There are major disruptions to our flight schedules today due to adverse weather conditions affecting many of our airports,” Air Corsica posted on Facebook.
Ferry services to and from the island were also disrupted.

Delays and cancellations occurred elsewhere major airportsIn places like Germany, Amsterdam, Italy and the UK.
French officials said they expected the disruption to continue on Friday, although the storm appeared to be weakening by late Thursday.
French Economy Minister Roland Lescure said 60,000 people across France were without power as Hurricane Benjamin struck the southern part of the country on Thursday afternoon.
