Flights delayed at Delhi airport due to ‘technical problem’ – DW – 11/07/2025

Indira Gandhi International Airport in the Indian capital Delhi said its air traffic control (ATC) system suffered a technical glitch on Friday morning, affecting several flights at one of the world’s busiest air hubs.

“Due to a technical issue with the air traffic control system, flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport are being delayed,” the airport said in an advisory posted on Twitter.

Air operators report delays

Top domestic airlines IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet said their operations were affected, causing long wait times. IndiGo, which has the country’s largest air traffic share of about 65%, said flight operations in Delhi and several northern regions were affected.

Meanwhile, the Airport Authority of India said there was a technical problem with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) that supports ATC data.

“Controllers are manually processing flight plans, causing some delays. Technical teams are working to restore systems as quickly as possible,” a statement on X said.

Data from air travel recorder FlightRadar24 showed that dozens of flights were affected by an average of 55 minutes of departure delays.

According to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Delhi airport handled about 78 million passengers in 2024 and more than 110 million between January and August of 2025.
