A Cypherpunk Center is built in Argentina financed with bitcoin

  • A residential building in Palermo Soho is transformed into a place for workshops, art and BTC meetups.

  • Loans with BTC allow Argentines and Uruguayans to buy and build houses without stepping foot in a bank.

Diego Gutiérrez Zaldívar, founder and CEO of the Argentine startup IOVLabs (creator of the RSK sidechain), is transforming a residential building in Palermo Soho into the first Cypherpunk Center in Argentina. The work is financed with a loan backed by bitcoin (BTC) through the Tropykus platform.

The space, designed especially for the community of the pioneering digital asset and Rootstock (the sidechain that adds smart contracts to Bitcoin), already has several levels that They are built to host workshops, coworking areas and areas dedicated to meetups.exhibitions and projections.

Although the work is still continuing, those who have already visited assure that “it is a space you never want to leave.” Completion is scheduled for the end of 2026, according to reported the Tropykus team on social networks.

For financing this renovation with DeFi, Gutiérrez Zaldívar received a commemorative plaque that recognizes him as one of the first in the world to rebuild a property using bitcoin as collateral on a decentralized platform.

This Cypherpunk Center joins a wave that is growing rapidly in the region. Among these cases, an Argentine bought an apartment in Villa Raffo that he now rents and the rents alone pay the loan installments, as previously reported by CriptoNoticias.

Similarly, a couple in Lanús bought a house with a patio for barbecues without stepping on a bench. In Uruguay, a family built their home from scratch while living on a bus, all with loans collateralized in BTC.

This all happens a year after the Tropykus team celebrated a $60,000 loan that was granted to a user in less than a minute. “No paperwork, regardless of your credit history or nationality, simply leaving your bitcoin as collateral,” they pointed.

Applying for a loan at Tropykus is as simple as is detailed in a video tutorial. The user connects their wallet (any compatible with Rootstock), deposits RBTC as collateral and immediately receives up to 67% of its value in the stablecoin Dollar on Chain (DOC) or RIF US Dollar (USDRIF).

You only need a small balance in RBTC to cover gas fees. Upon returning the DOC plus interest, the collateral is automatically unlocked to the applicant’s wallet.
