Argentina’s ‘good old boys’ break world record – DW – 12/09/2025

Dog lovers gathered in a park in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Monday to try to break the unofficial world record for the largest number of golden retrievers gathered.

Organizer Fausto Duperre saw more than 2,000 golden retrievers arriving at Palermo Park, eager to surpass the previous record of 1,685.

“We’re seeing something historic,” said Duperre, who has become a golden retriever influencer on social media, where he regularly posts content about his 10-year-old golden named Ollie.

Dubbed the “Golden Wave”, what started as a simple social media idea quickly turned into a joyous canine takeover of the capital’s Bosques di Palermo park.

The park was filled with golden retrievers of all ages, from dirty, playful puppies to dignified senior citizens.

Nicolas Orellana said, “She has been a constant presence in our family since we were kids. We’ve spent holidays with her. We’ve done everything together.” He drove an hour and a half from his hometown in Buenos Aires Province for the event.

“This is the type of dog that is known to form a special bond,” he said, kneeling down to his contented 13-year-old dog, Luna.

Last year, Vancouver set the standard with 1,685 golden retrievers, but Duperre announced that Argentina has broken the record with 2,397 furry participants.

“I’m really grateful and happy, proud, excited and very happy,” he said.
