At least three people were killed and five were injured in attacks on two metro stations in Taiwan’s capital Taipei on Friday.
The perpetrator, believed to be in his twenties, was initially thought to have committed suicide by jumping from a nearby building after the attack.
This fact was later confirmed by police, who said he was declared dead after being sent to a hospital, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency, bringing the total number of deaths to four.
What happened in the Taiwan metro attack?

It is unclear how the attacker reached the rooftop of a building, from where he jumped to avoid arrest.
Police say that many people have been injured not only in the knife attack but also in the smoke grenade.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-en said one victim died while trying to stop the attack.
What do we know about the suspect?
Taiwanese Prime Minister Cho Jung-tae called the attacks “a deliberate act”, and said police had increased security at Taiwan’s train and subway stations.
Authorities said the suspected attacker had a criminal record and outstanding warrants.
Cho said that investigators had searched the man’s home, adding, “We will investigate his background and related ties to understand his motives and determine if there are other connecting factors.”
Taiwanese President Lai Ching-tey said the government would strengthen security and swiftly investigate the case to ensure public safety.
