Libyan military chief dies in plane crash in Türkiye – DW – 12/23/2025

Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah confirmed the death of Libya’s military chief and four others in a plane crash in Türkiye on Tuesday.

Turkey’s interior minister said earlier air traffic controllers had lost contact with the Dassault Falcon 50-type jet carrying the Libyan military chief and others home after a trip to Turkey.

Ali Yerlikaya posted on X, The plane took off from Ankara’s Esenboga Airport at 8:10 pm local time. Contact with the jet was lost after 40 minutes, he said.

Yerlikaya said the plane issued an emergency landing signal near Hemana, a district south of Ankara, before all communications were cut off.

Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah said in a statement on Facebook that the “tragic accident” occurred when the Libyan delegation was “returning from an official visit to Ankara.”
