Iran’s Foreign Minister says ‘no negotiations’ going on with US
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that no negotiations are taking place with the United States and that his country has not responded to the so-called 15-point US proposal to end the war.
“We receive messages from the American side, some directly and some through our friends in the region, and we respond to these messages whenever necessary,” Araghchi told Al Jazeera in an interview broadcast on Wednesday.
Araghchi said contacts with the US do not mean Iran is negotiating with Washington, Qatari media network reported.
“There is no basis for dialogue,” he said, adding that some messages were exchanged directly with US special envoy Steve Witkoff.
Araghchi further said there was “no truth” to the claim of talks with any party in Iran, Al Jazeera reported.
“All messages are delivered to or received by the Foreign Ministry, and communications take place between security agencies,” Al Jazeera quoted him as saying.
Diplomatic efforts were recently launched to end the war, involving Türkiye, Egypt and Pakistan.
Last week, America sent a 15-point ceasefire plan to Tehran through Pakistan.
Iranian media reported that Tehran offered a five-point counterproposal, saying it would end US-Israeli “aggression” and guarantee that the US and Israel would not resume hostilities.
However, Araghchi told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that Tehran has not responded to the US proposal and has not “presented any offers or conditions.”
