Trump will suspend US strikes on Iran for two weeks provided the Strait of Hormuz opens

US President Donald Trump agreed to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided that Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

The announcement came less than two hours before his set deadline, which he claimed would lead to the death of “an entire civilization.”

In a message on social media, Trump wrote that, after speaking with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he “[agreed] To suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.”

He said this was “subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the full, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz.”

He said Iran has presented a ten-point proposal and believes it is “a practical basis for dialogue.”

He claimed that “almost all the various points of past dispute” had already been agreed upon, but did not elaborate.
