Lufthansa pilots union has called for a two-day strike

Lufthansa pilots are set to strike on Monday and Tuesday next week, the pilots’ trade union announced on Saturday. Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa CityLine and Eurowings are all included in the call down tool.

The work stoppage is expected to last from 12:01 a.m. on Monday (22:01 UTC on Sunday) until 23:59 on Tuesday, the union said.

What did the pilots union say?

“The Cockpit Union was forced to take this step after employers showed no apparent willingness to reach settlements in a number of collective bargaining disputes,” the organization said.

Union president Andreas Pinheiro said, “Despite the deliberate decision not to strike over the Easter holidays, no serious proposals were made. During this period, there was neither any response from the employers nor any clear willingness to engage in negotiations.”

The move comes just a day after Lufthansa cabin crew walked off the job after the UFO trade union called for a one-day strike from 10:00 pm on Friday for members of both Lufthansa and its Cityline regional subsidiary.

Germany’s major carrier canceled hundreds of flights ahead of the strike as it struggled to mitigate the impact of the walkout.

The cancellations affected Lufthansa hubs in Munich and Frankfurt, as well as other airports including Leipzig/Halle, Berlin and Stuttgart.

At its largest operation in Frankfurt, approximately 75% of the approximately 350 scheduled Lufthansa departures were cancelled.
