Israeli military says it attacked Hezbollah targets after rocket attack
The Israeli military said it struck a Hezbollah rocket launcher in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, and accused the pro-Iran Shiite group of firing on troops in “gross violation of the ceasefire agreement.”
The army said in a statement that Hezbollah fired “several rockets” toward Israeli troops in southern Lebanon despite a US-brokered 10-day ceasefire that came into force on Thursday.
It said sirens sounded in two northern Israeli communities after a drone fired from Lebanon was intercepted before entering Israeli territory.
Israel did it After Hezbollah joined the US-Israeli war with Iran on March 2, it launched airstrikes across Lebanon and launched attacks in the south of the country. Despite the ceasefire, Israeli troops remain engaged in fighting with Hezbollah and have continued demolitions, saying they are targeting the group’s infrastructure.
Hezbollah rejects direct Lebanon-Israel talks
Hezbollah has rejected ongoing direct talks between Lebanon and Israel, which Israel says are aimed at disarming the terrorist group and normalizing relations between the two countries.
Lebanese officials say the talks aim to end the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon.
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Lebanon’s most senior Shiite politician and Hezbollah ally, previously told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Joumhouriya That if Israeli forces occupying parts of the south do not retreat, they will face resistance.
“If they insist on remaining, they will face resistance and our history bears witness to that,” Berry was quoted as saying.
