The Georgian police on Sunday arrested two opposition leaders during the protest of the ruling Georgian Dream Party.
Tabilisi has seen daily protests as Prime Minister Iraqali Kobkhidz announced that his government would not demand to open the European Union membership talks for Georgia before 2028.
What do we know about arrest?
According to several news agency reports, the police expanded Liberal Akhhali party leader, Nika Melia and former Tabilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulwa.
Russia’s Interfax news agency reported that Melia was later released on bail.
“At the police station, I was sitting on a chair in handcuffs and kicked by a police officer,” Melia was quoted by Interfax.
During the protests on Sunday, thousands of people gathered outside a shopping complex to the north of the Georgian capital and briefly blocked a major road.
The internal ministry of Georgia warned the protesters that blocking the road was a criminal offense.
In the first wave of protests in November, according to the Interior Ministry, more than 400 protesters were arrested.
Opposition protest October election
Kobkhidze’s Georgian dream claimed victory in the October elections, alleging that they are fraud.
In December, Mikhile Kavashwili was sworn in as the new chairman of Georgia, after 300 persons dominated by Georgia’s dream Electoral College.
His predecessor, former President Salom Zerabichhwili, said what is the inauguration of Kavashwili fake. Zourabichvili was once seen as a loyalist of the Georgian dream, but was faster than the party in recent years.
Georgia witnessed extensive protests last year when Tabilisi passed a law, allowing NGOs and media to be more easily monitored.
