What do we know – DW – 03/03/2025

Another mystery of the Democratic Republic of Congo has revealed the outbreak of the disease, resulting in at least 60 deaths, health officials.

It follows an uniform event in September 2024, called the “Disease X” before the World Health Organization (WHO), it was identified as a cocktail of many known acute respiratory diseases complicated by malaria and malnutrition.

Thesis may lead to equal origin in new outbreaks, but it will probably take time to determine what is the reason for this.

Therefore toxic contamination is considered a possible cause.

What is the current situation in DR Congo?

Dr. BEE has been reported in more than 1,000 cases in the equivalent province of Congo and in 141 cases of a disease, Beken has been reported by Beken in Basaksu’s health sector. In early February, a separate outbreak included 158 cases and 58 deaths.

In January, Bolmba village reported 12 cases and eight deaths.

What initial tests are shown?

Dr. Health Authority and WHO experts in Congo are investigating to determine the cause of illness and deaths.

Early laboratory tests denied Ebola and Marburg disease. Half of the tested people have conducted positive tests for malaria.

WHO spokesman Margaret Harris told DW News, “We are not really satisfied with the sample, so we have sent two epidemics to scientists.”

“They are now there and they are overseeing samples and getting the theme back in laboratories [DR Congo’s capital] Kinshasa.

Further testing is for meningitis and potential poisoning contamination.

WHO Emergency Director Mike Ryan, along with local health officials, favor the latter as a reason.

“It appears that we have any kind of poisoning incident,” Ryan told reporters.

Does the authorities know the source of outbreak?

The cause of the disease – and whether diseases are connected in different fields – remains unknown.

Initial reports suggested that earlier cases were in a group of children who may have eaten with the bat, although the incident has not yet been confirmed as the causes of outbreak.

Bats are reservoirs of pathogens causing viruses and other diseases. Global health advice advises people to explain from coming in contact with dead animals.

Although Basankasu and Bolomba’s main outbreaks are 116 miles (186 km) separate, it is not clear that the outbreak of the disease shares the same cause.

What are the symptoms of mystery disease?

The latest Memo of WHO states that symptoms are widespread, and include fever, headache, chills, sweating, neck hardness, muscle pain, joint and body pain, coupine, and diarrhea.

The prevalence of these symptoms and their ability to apply to many diseases make it impossible to indicate the cause without analysis of biological samples from patients.

Some health experts believe that mystery disease is likely to occur with many known paths.

This malaria has been found in one of the two cases, already important information for health officials, but will help for a reason in addition to further samples and analysis by WHO officials in combination with local teams.

Michael Head told an epidemic at Southampton, UK, “The tests are never 100% accurate, and it is likely that with enlarged testing, we will have a strong pathogen in some samples.”

Can the disease spread further?

The DR Congo region has limited health infrastructure, and there are concerns that the disease can spread. With malaria respiratory infections, which cause an outbreak of 2024, can increase the chanting of death under malnutrition and other underlying conditions.

Local Health Authority has been addressing the outbreaks of MPOX and Ebola in recent years, so the head suggests that the challenges of limited infrastructure to manage new diseases can be offered by “Experienced Experience to Address Epidemination”.

Whether an unknown pathogen should be identified as a cause, health authorities will need to enhance measures to incorporate the spread of the disease and identify the method of transmission.
