Several people were injured when two trains collided in Denmark on Thursday, according to local and international media reports.
The incident happened near Hillerod, north of Copenhagen, and police were alerted about the accident at around 6:30 a.m. (0430 GMT).
What do we know about the commuter train crash in Denmark?
A police statement described the accident as a “serious accident” and said police and emergency services were deployed “in large numbers”.
“It’s two commuter trains that collided head-on,” a spokesman for the Greater Copenhagen Fire Department said.
“The passengers have been injured,” the spokesperson said. “Everyone is off the trains, so no one is stranded.”
Public broadcaster DR quoted police as saying that the number of injured people was believed to be between five and 10.
The accident has tarnished the reputation of the transport system.
Denmark prides itself on having a safe transportation system, but there have been accidents in the past.
In 2019, a train accident killed eight people and injured 16. In August last year, one person was killed and 27 were injured when a train collided with a slurry tanker and derailed in southern Denmark near the German border.
This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
