A space dedicated to Bitcoin will open in Uruguay

  • The event will be next May 24 in Montevideo and is part of Bitcoin Week Uruguay.

  • The meeting will combine talks, panels, workshops, presentations and will be broadcast via streaming.

On May 24, 2026, Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, will host “Be Orange: The Bitcoiner Meeting”, a meeting specifically designed to promote the fundamentals, history and philosophy of Bitcoin.

This event, which will take place at Sinergia Faro, Punta Carretas, will function as the official closing of the first edition of Bitcoin Week Uruguay, integrating talks, workshops and institutional networking spaces with global transmission via streaming.

In an environment of greater legal certainty due to recent regulatory advances in Uruguay, the production company Plugin and the local company Roderich’s Crypto House joined forces to consolidate a “Bitcoin-only” space that differentiates the leading digital currency from the rest of the digital asset market.

The creation of Be Orange responds to a statistical reality of the local market. According to internal data from Roderich’s Crypto House shared with CriptoNoticias, in the last three years only 7% of exchange operations in Uruguay corresponded to bitcoin. The vast majority of the volume was concentrated in stablecoins such as USDT and USDC, as well as other digital assets.

Against this backdrop, the event seeks to ensure that bitcoin is not “reduced to just another option” for exchange, but rather that it is understood as a new economic, cultural and political order.

Rodrigo Castañeda, founder of Roderich’s Crypto House, pointed out that the space was created to bring together those “who are building and making decisions” about this digital asset in a country where reputation and trust are the pillars of its financial ecosystem.

According to reports, Be Orange will feature the participation of international speakers and is aimed at a technical and professional profile, including political and institutional actors. The objective of the organizers, they insist, is to professionalize the conversation around financial sovereignty and the monetary philosophy proposed by the digital asset created by Satoshi Nakamoto.

The meeting will be free with prior registration and aims to be the first in a series of events that connect Uruguay with the global bitcoin ecosystem. For Maximiliano Pérez, founder of Plugin, it is essential that the country has meeting points to obtain first-hand information and build solutions from the global south, taking advantage of the prudence and solidity that characterizes the Uruguayan user in the adoption of new financial technologies.

The initiative arises at a key moment for the Uruguayan market, after the promulgation of Law No. 20,345 and the regulation of the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) on virtual asset service providers.
