Rakuten enables the exchange of points for XRP for 44 million users

Rakuten, the Japanese e-commerce giant, has enabled the conversion of its loyalty points into XRP for users in that country since April 29, 2026.

The Rakuten points system (known as Rakuten Points) is a loyalty program through which Users accumulate rewards when making purchases, payments or using services within the platform. These points function as a kind of digital balance that can be used to pay for products, obtain discounts or redeem for other services.

With the new integration, those points can now be converted into XRP. This implies that a user who accumulates rewards on a daily basis can transform them directly into that cryptocurrency, without having to buy it with fiat money.

The scale of the system is relevant. Rakuten Pay has approximately 44 million users in Japan, and It is estimated that there are more than 3 trillion Rakuten Points in circulation, equivalent to about $23 billionwhich can now be funneled into the cryptocurrency issued by Ripple Labs.

As reported by CriptoNoticias, Rakuten had already announced on April 15 the incorporation of XRP to its ecosystem, allowing its use as a means of payment and its storage in the Rakuten Wallet.
